Center Membership

The FMM Center is designed to allow participation by any company engaged in or related to the manufacturing of furniture and fixtures. Membership in the Center is based upon contributions to the Furniture Foundation, Inc., of High Points, NC. Contributions are made through the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) in High Point and is based on the following annual schedule.

Center Member:

AFMA Member: All companies that are members in good standing of AFMA are automatically members of the Center.

Non-AFMA Member: Requires a Furniture Foundation contribution equal to the greater of $5000 or $3 per employee otherwise or membership into AFMA.

Benefits of Center Membership

The Center brings together academic faculty, graduate students, and furniture manufacturing engineers and managers for the purpose of developing valuable technological, operational, and strategic advances. Center members can:

- Directly influence the Center's research agenda, as well as participate in and immediately benefit from project activities and findings.

- Benefit from the research initiatives conducted by the Center disseminated through various communications tools including:

    - Research papers and technical reports
    - Workshops and seminars
    - Computer software systems
    - Training sessions
- Help determine the Center's research and extension agenda.

- Interact and participate in information exchange with other furniture companies.

- Develop an improved understanding of new manufacturing and environmental technologies, as well as business strategies that enhance competitiveness.

-Gain preferential access to undergraduate and graduate engineering students with furniture specific training.

Center Advisory Committee

This committee provides industrial oversight of the Center. The committee includes the 15 members of the Furniture Foundation Board of Directors, the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, and the Center Director.

The committee has the responsibility of reviewing proposals and recommending the allocation of funds and effort for research and extension projects.
