BSIE, FM Option Scholarships
BSIE, Furniture Manufacturing Option Scholarships

The BSIE, Furniture Manufacturing Option degree is fortunate to have a number of annual and endowed scholarships available exclusively to students enrolled in this program. It is not uncommon for all of the students in a particular class to be receiving significant financial assitance. Some scholarship awards are based on financial need, but most are merit scholarships and can be applied for by any student in good standing enrolled in the BSIE, FM.

At present, 6 scholarship endowments provide financial assistance exclusively to Furniture Manufacturing students. Depending upon the endowment, the award criteria is scholastic achievement and/or financial need.(Andrew Blaine Johnston, Red McCuen, Arthur J. Meier, James T. Ryan, Richard J. Reynolds III and Marie M. Reynolds Foundation Scholarship, and the Willis Hedrick Scholarship)

In addition to these scholarships, FM students have also received the American Eagle Scholarship Award from the American Supply and Machinery Manufacturers' Association and scholarships from he Woodworking Machinery Industry Association. These additional scholarships are specifically for students interested in pursuing careers in the field of wood products manufacturing and are awarded directly by the sponsors.

The amount of award depends upon a student's scholastic achievement, financial need, extracurricular service record as well as the number of deserving students making application. Students are eligible to receive more than one award. For the academic year 1997-98, the scholarship committee awarded 9 scholarships with two recipients receiving support from more than one source.

For more information on eligibility and availability, please contact Professor Russell E. King (king@eos.ncsu.edu), chairman of the Industrial and Systems Engineering department scholarship committee. Furniture Manufacturing Option students are also eligible for general Industrial and Systems Engineering scholarships as well.
