The minor was established to give interested students across the university an
opportunity to study furniture manufacturing processes. It was originally created to meet the needs
of students in Industrial
Design with an interest in becoming furniture designers. However, students in Wood Technology , Business Management , or other fields of study
can also gain or expand technical knowledge of furniture production.
The minor is expected to improve the number of professionals being educated for
careers in the furniture industry.
The Minor
is comprised of 15 credit hours offered by the
Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The five
courses include four from the BSIE, FMO curriculum having content directly related to furniture manufacturing and
one additional course in industrial engineering.
