Focused Projects

A focused project is a coordinated effort between the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center at North Carolina State University and your company. The focused project approach utilizes cross-functional teams to identify and plan actions which address the specific needs of the furniture manufacturer.

When a company decides to pursue a focused project, a contract is entered into between the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center and the furniture company. This contract lists the details of the project, as well as the responsibilities of both parties.

A focused project will typically last from four to six months. During the duration of the project, a member of the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center staff works closely with the Project Leader and the Project Team which are established by the participating company. Regularly scheduled meetings are held to develop action plans and evaluate progress. At the completion of the project the Project Team presents a report to the company management and a detailed report is compiled by the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center coordinator outlining the goals, actions, and progress of the focused project.

Furniture manufacturers engaged in focused projects report that it is a very cost effective method of problem solving as well as an excellent training tool for personnel engaged in the project team.
