FMMC Sponsored Field Trips

To supplement the four furniture courses, the FMMC arranges and sponsors several trips to various furniture companies as well as arranges for the students to visit the semi-annual Furniture Market in High Point.

These overnight and day trips are give the FMM students first hand knowledge and experience of furniture operations. FMM students use this information to help them design their furniture plants in IE340 and IE341. Students taking the machinery course IE241, gain valuable insight into the operation of the various wood-working machines used in furniture production. The FMMC is often allowed to take digital pictures and video of the various operations to be used in lectures in subsequent years.

The following students are watching a young lady layout a pattern on a bolt of fabric to be cut by an automatic cutter while a man performs an 8-way tie on a sofa seat. These pictures were taken with permission at a Century Upholster plant.
