Holz-Her Panel Saw

The Holz-Her vertical panel saw (model 1265) located in Park Shops 101 provides a means for performing precision cutting which can be used directly in edge gluing or banding. The FMMC purchased the Holz-Her Panel Saw primarily to create accurate part blanks in house for use in the Furniture FMS. The saw is also used to supplement class lectures and give FMM students first hand knowledge of sawing operations.

Furniture students enrolled in the second furniture course (IE-241) learn how to use the strip gauges and digital gauge to setup stops for both vertical and horizontal cuts. They learn the importance of the scoring knives in precision cutting as well as saw blade materials.

The following pictures show students using the ProScale, a high-precision electronic measurement device to accurately setup a stop. The students then are able to make very accurate blanks to be used later in the CNC assignments on the 5-axis Shoda Router.
